José “Che” Bohr (1901-1994) real name was Yopes Bohr Elzer. He was born in Germany in 1901; he immigrated with his family to Mexico and ended settling in Chile. In love with the cinema, he was founder of two production companies, for which he directed documentaries from 1917 to 1921. By the mid 1920s, he worked in the U.S.A. making musical short films, he participated in feature films in Spanish and he moved to Mexico. There he directed La sangre manda  (1933), followed by ¿Quién mató a Eva? (1934), very influenced by the thriller and the melodrama. In this movie he created  the character Luponini, to who he dedicates several titles in which he advanced the gangster's vision that would make famous to Juan Orol. He also directed the melodramas  Tu hijo (1934) and Sueño de amor (1935), followed by the musical comedy Así es la mujer (1936). In Marihuana (1936) it became patent his film intuition. At the end of 1939, and after 14 movies, he returned to Chile where he continued his career as film director and actor until 1969.
