
The Mexican filmmaker Archibaldo Burns was introduced to the cinema by the producer Francisco de Paula Cabrera, as his assistant producer in the film Refugiados en Madrid (1938) by Alejandro Galindo; he also worked as artistic supervisor in La noche de los mayas (1939), by Chano Ureta. He was away from the cinema for some time and then he directed the short films Perfecto Luna (1958) and Un agujero en la niebla (1967), best short film according to The Goethe Institute of Mexico and the Oberhausen Film Festival. His first work was Juego de mentiras (1967), second place at the 2nd Contest of Experimental Cinema. This film was followed by Juan Pérez Jolote (1973), based on the novel by Ricardo Pozas.
