La decimocuarta edición del Festival de Cine de Trinidad y Tobago se acerca cada vez más con un nuevo calendario de eventos para 2019.

Por primera vez, el Festival de Cine de Trinidad y Tobago (ttff) organizará una edición dedicada al CARIFESTA, que se llevará a cabo del 17 al 23 de agosto, al mismo tiempo que la mayor celebración regional de la cultura caribeña.  La edición del ttff dedicada al 19 CARIFESTA realizará proyecciones gratuitas e incluirá una selección de las mejores películas de todo el Caribe tanto clásicas como experimentales.

Eventos dedicados a la industria

Estos eventos se llevarán a cabo los días 19 y 20 de agosto e incluyen un taller sobre contratos, y derechos de autor, así como paneles sobre marketing y financiación de películas. Los mismos permitirán a los cineastas la oportunidad de reunirse y compartir de manera informal con cineastas de Trinidad Tobago en un desayuno de trabajo. Los Cineastas de TT también organizan Mirada a Adentro, un panel de discusión sobre cooperación intrarregional y coproducción.

Galas y presentaciones especiales

Proyección de Charlie's Records y conversatorio después de la proyección. Charlie's Records es una "institución" cultural caribeña en Fulton St., Brooklyn, EEUU. Su propietario Rawlston Charles, una leyenda en los círculos de la música caribeña, estará presente para responder las preguntas después de la primera proyección, que será moderada por el querido ingeniero de sonido y extraordinario narrador local, Robin Foster. Con entrada libre y gratuita.

Couva Joylanders conversa con Ray Funk, en Gone But Not Forgotten. Presentado conjuntamente con la Compañía Nacional de Gas de Trinidad y Tobago Ltd (NGC), el especialista en calipso Ray Funk, presentará una charla con videoclips sobre los últimos iconos de  la música en  Trinidad y Tobago.

Escena musical autóctona

Proyección de Bakoso: Afro Beats of Cuba en el  Grundlos Kollektiv. Bakoso es una exploración de los ritmos Afrobeats (piénsese que Fela Kuti junto a Machel Montano y este a Daddy  Yankee), un género musical contagioso que hace bailar. El protagonista de la película, DJ Jigüe, estará presente en Trinidad para la proyección y actuará después de la misma.

Se presentará también en Cine Bajo las Estrella, Reggae Boyz , que sigue al equipo de fútbol jamaicano en su búsqueda de la clasificación para la Copa Mundial 2014, un filme muy popular que complacerá a todos.

The fourteeth edition of the Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival is approaching quicker than usual with a new run time for 2019. For the first time, the annual film festival will host a CARIFESTA edition in August and will run in tandem with the largest regional celebration of culture. ttff/19 carifesta edition will be hosted from  August 17-23, with free screenings at APA, SAPA, Naparima Bowl and Shaw Park Cultural Complex, and includes, as always, the best films from around the Caribbean, Panorama films, classics and experimental films.

Industry Events

These events are set to take place on August 19 and 20 and include a workshop on Contracts, Clearance and Copyright as well as panels on marketing and film financing.

Attending filmmakers the opportunity for informal meeting and sharing with the FilmTT Filmmaker Breakfast. FilmTT also supports the “Look Within” panel discussion on intra-regional cooperation and co-productions.

APA1 screening of “Charlie's Records” and post-screening conversation. Charlie's Records is a Caribbean cultural "institution" on Fulton St. in Brooklyn. And its owner, Rawlston Charles, is a legend in Caribbean music circles. He is flying in for the first post-screening Q&A, which will be moderated by beloved local sound engineer and storyteller extraordinaire, Robin Foster. (Free and open to the public)

Couva Joylanders talk with Ray Funk, “Gone But Not Forgotten”. Presented in partnership with the National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago Ltd (NGC), calypso afficionado, Ray Funk, will present a talk with video clips on the late pan icons of Trinidad and Tobago’s

August 18 (Free and open to the public)

Screening of “Bakoso: Afro Beats of Cuba” and after party at Grundlos Kollektiv. “Bakoso” is an exploration of afrobeats (think Fela Kuti meets Machel Montano meets Daddy Yankee) an infectious musical genre that makes you want to dance. The film’s protagonist, DJ Jigüe, will be in Trinidad for the screening at Grundlos, and he is going to play music at the after party. It’s going to be a really fun night with great music and plenty dancing.

Shell presents Cinema Under the Stars: screening of “Reggae Boyz” at San Fernando Hill. Following the Jamaican football team in their quest to qualify for the 2014 World Cup, this crowd pleaser will have you on your feet and cheering for the underdog in no time at all! 

August 21

The world premiere of “Queen of Soca” at NAPA, Naparima Bowl and Shaw Park Cultural Complex. Directed by Kevin Adams, with support from the Ministry of Community Development, Culture and the Arts and the TAKE ONE programme, “Queen of Soca” tells the story of Olivia, a young woman with a natural gift for singing. She wants to escape her life of lesser means and believes her passion for singing soca music can change her life.

However, her religious mother abhors anything that’s not related to the church, especially soca music. Olivia must decide whether to pursue her dream of becoming a Soca star and risk the relationship with her mother, the only family she knows. (N.B. This is a paid/ ticketed
