Juan Mora Catlett

Cursa su Maestría en la Facultad de Cine y TV de la Academia de Bellas Artes (FAMU), en Praga. Ha ejercido como profesor en el Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica y es Profesor Titular del Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematográficos de la UNAM.
Se ha desempeñado en las áreas de dirección, guión y edición de cine documental y de ficción. Durante los últimos años ha incursionado en la animación. Entre sus realizaciones más galardonadas figuran Retorno a Aztlán, por la que recibió el Gran Premio Especial del Jurado del VII Festival de Cine Latinoamericano de Trieste, Italia, en 1992; Pancho y Betty (1998) y The work of Elizabeth Catlett.
Volarte (2003) es una animación digital cuyo guión, producción y dirección corrieron a cargo de Mora Catlett. Resultado de su incursión en la animación por computadora, su propósito es cumplido a cabalidad: muestra digitalmente el interior del Palacio de Bellas Artes de modo que puedan apreciarse, sin columnas ni demás elementos arquitectónicos de por medio, las obras pictóricas que alberga la sede principal del museo.
Eréndira Ikikunari (2006), su más reciente obra como director y guionista, es la leyenda de Eréndira, una joven mujer indígena que robó el caballo a los conquistadores españoles y lo montó en la guerra contra ellos, sin que nunca pudieran darle muerte.
He studied to get a Master’s degree at the Film and TV Faculty of the Fine Arts Academy (FAMU), in Prague. He has worked as a professor at the Centre for Cinematographic Training and he is also a titular professor of the University Centre for Cinematographic Studies of UNAM.
He has performed his work in the areas of direction, script and documentary and fiction film edition. During the last years he has explored animation. Among his most prize-winning movies are the films Retorno a Aztlán, which won the Grand Special Prize of the Jurors at the VII Latin American Film Festival of Trieste, Italy, in 1992, Pancho y Betty (1998) and The work of Elizabeth Catlett.
Volarte (2003) is a digital animation whose script, production and direction were the responsibility of Mora Catlett. The result of his exploration in computerized animation has served its purpose thoroughly: he shows digital views of the interior of the Fine Arts Palace in a way in which the pictorial pieces that the main museum houses can be appreciated without the pillars or any other architectonic element.
Eréndira Ikikunari (2006), his most recent film as a director and script-writer, narrates the legend of Eréndira, a young indigenous woman who took away the horse of the Spanish conquerors and rode on it during the war, while they were unable to kill her.
