    Después de trabajar como iluminador en producciones de cine independiente como la de Spike Lee, Summer´s of Sam, con John Leguizamo y The Devors, con Michael Caine, realizó su primer largometraje, El círculo vicioso (1999). Este filme fue galardonado en febrero del 2000 con el Premio de la Juventud como Mejor Ópera Prima en el Festival Internacional de Cine de Puerto Rico, y seleccionado como película de apertura en la II Muestra Internacional de Cine de Santo Domingo. Nelson Peña, siguiendo la ruta marcada por él mismo, realizó el filme The Sad Spanish Song, su segundo largometraje.


    Nelson Peña is a Dominican filmmaker who began his work in the film industry as technician. After working as lighting technician in independent film productions such as Spike Lee´s Summer´s of Sam with John Leguizamo and The Devors with Michael Caine, he made his first feature film, El círculo vicioso (1999). This film was awarded on February 2000 with the Youth Prize for the Best First Work at the Puerto Rico International Film Festival and selected as best work in the Puerto Rico Film Festival and as the opening film of the 2nd Santo Domingo International Film Show (Muestra Internacioanl de Cine de Santo Domingo). Following the route of his own works, he made his second feature film, The Sad Spanish Song.
