    Cineasta nacido en la Ciudad de México, después de vivir algún tiempo en España, en 1990 ingresa al Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematográficos de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México para estudiar dirección y guión durante cuatro años. En ese periodo realiza tres cortometrajes en 16mm (La afectuosa voz del encargo N°54 del banco central, El fin del comienzo y El viaje en paracaídas) y un largometraje, también en 16mm (El repartidor de pensamientos).

    Ya en el terreno profesional comienza asistiendo dirección en películas mexicanas y francesas (Cilantro y Perejil de Rafael Montero, En el aire de Juan Carlos de Llaca, Les Disparues de la Sierra Madre de Joyce Buñuel, Pili, Prince des Rues de Bertrand van Effenterre o Hold-up en l´air de Eric Civanyan), y finalmente, en 1997, a dirigir profesionalmente en programas de televisión educativos producidos por el Instituto Latinoamericano de la Comunicación Educativa (ILCE) y la UTE de la Secretaría de Educación Pública. Entre tanto, ese mismo año produce el cortometraje Adela Despierta Despierta (35mm), de Erika O. Grediaga, con el apoyo del CUEC, IMCINE y FONCA.

    En el año 2000 termina su largometraje Sofía, donde trabaja con Angélica Aragón, Damián Alcázar y Martín Lasalle, y que gana el Premio a la Mejor Película Extranjera en el New York International Independent Film Video Festival en Estados Unidos.




    Alan Coton (1967-) was born in Mexico City; after living in Spain for some time, in 1990, he registered at the University Centre for Film Studies (Centro Universitario de Estudios Cinematográficos) of the National Autonomous University (Universidad Nacional Autónoma) of Mexico to study direction and scriptwriting for four years. During that period he made three short films in  16mm (La afectuosa voz del encargo N°54 del Banco Central, El fin del comienzo and El viaje en paracaídas) and a feature film, also in 16mm (El repartidor de pensamientos).

    His professional career at the cinema began as assistant director in Mexican and French films (Cilantro y Perejil by Rafael Montero, En el aire by Juan Carlos de Llaca, Les Disparues de la Sierra Madre by Joyce Buñuel, Pili, Prince des Rues by Bertrand van Effenterre or Hold-up en l´air by Eric Civanyan), and finally in 1997, he began the professional direction of educational television programs produced by the Latin American Institute of Educational Communication (ILCE) and the UTE from the Secretariat of Public Education. Meanwhile, in the same year he produces the short film Adela Despierta Despierta (35mm) by Erika O. Grediaga with the support of CUEC, IMCINE and FONCA.

    In 2000, he finished his feature film Sofia, where he worked with Angélica Aragón, Damián Alcázar and Martín Lasalle, and won the award for Best Foreign Film at the New York International Independent Film Video Festival in the United States. Nevertheless, due to the bad management of the film producer, it was not release until 2003 by the 20th Century Fox.
