    Sinopsis: Waste Land es un ejemplo de cómo el arte es capaz de transformar profundamente al ser humano. Un relato conmovedor sobre la belleza y la dignidad en medio en uno de los basureros más grandes del mundo. El artista brasileño Vik Muniz, viaja de Brooklyn a Río de Janeiro con un proyecto artístico sobre el reciclaje. Sin embargo, su objetivo inicial se va transformando a medida que descubre cómo los recicladores muestran su colaboración en un afán por re imaginar sus vidas. Una interacción que transformará tanto a los realizadores como a los entrevistados. Con Waste Land la británica Lucy Walker, que durante tres años grabó todo este proceso, nos sumerge en una reflexión sobre la lucha personal por la supervivencia, la transformación y la dignidad humana.

    Waste Land has already received awards at the Sundance and Berlin festivals, among a whole host of other international accolades. A moving story that exemplifies the transformative power of art and the resilience of the human spirit, Waste Land follows artist Vik Muniz from Brooklyn to his native Brazil, to one of the world´s biggest garbage dumps on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. Muniz´s initial project is to “paint” the garbage recyclers, but contact with these inspiring characters as they recreate photographic images of themselves out of garbage reveals their human dignity and despair. Filmed over three years, British director Lucy Walker forces us to reflect on these very personal battles for survival in a film that transformed its makers and encouraged its subjects to re-imagine their lives.
