    Antes de comenzar su carrera en el cine Galáz ingresó a estudiar Filosofía en la Universidad de Chile durante cuatro años. Posteriormente, en 1986, se tituló de Periodista en la Universidad Católica. El trabajo en el área audiovisual lo inició como editor general y director de documentales en el programa Teleánalisis.

    Más tarde, en 1990, fue uno de los fundadores de la productora de TV y cine Nueva Imagen, etapa en la que realizó video clips con diversos grupos musicales. Luego, en 1991, crea Cebra Producciones dedicada a la realización de cine publicitario, llegando a producir más de 200 comerciales.

    También es uno de los fundadores de la Corporación Cinematográfica de Chile y editor de la desaparecida revista de cine The End. En esta área ha participado activamente en las propuestas generadas por la Plataforma Audiovisual (organización que tiene por objetivo  cuidar, fomentar y desarrollar al quehacer audiovisual chileno en todas sus facetas). El éxito como director lo alcanzó con la taquillera cinta El chacotero sentimental.

    Cristián Galaz, born in Chile, before skating his film career he enrolled to study Philosophy at the Chile University (Universidad de Chile) for four years. In 1986 he graduated as journalist at the Catholic University (Universidad Católica). His first work in the audiovisual was as general editor and director of documentaries for the television program Teleánalisis.

    Then,  in 1990, he was one of the producers  of the film and television production company Nueva Imagen, a period in which he made  music videos to different musical groups. In 1991 he created Cebra Producciones, devoted to make advertising, accounting more than 200 commercials.

    He was also one of the founders of the Chile Film corporation (Corporación Cinematográfica de Chile) and editor of the former film magazine The End. In this area, he has actively took part the Plataforma Audiovisual (organization that has as goal to foster and develop, the Chilean audiovisual in all his modality). his success as director came with the box office hit El chacotero sentimental.
