  • Augusto San Miguel ha muerto ayer

    Sinopsis: El guayaquileño Augusto San Miguel produjo, dirigió y protagonizó en la década del 20 las primeras películas de ficción realizadas en el Ecuador. Ninguna de estas películas se conservan en la actualidad y la biografía de su autor está llena de vacíos inexplicables y pasajes cercanos al mito. Este documental reconstruye su figura, casi 80 años después, desde registros como archivos, testimonios y anuncios de prensa de la época, pero también desde el reciclaje de su leyenda al intentar revelar si la tumba del primer cineasta ecuatoriano contiene, como se rumora, las películas con las cuáles pidió ser enterrado.

    Augusto San Miguel, from Guayaquil, produced, directed and starred the first feature films made in Ecuador, in the 1920s. None of these films are preserved today and its author´s biography is full of unexplained gaps and passages approaching the myth. This documentary film reconstructs this figure, nearly 80 years later, from records such as files, testimonies and press releases of the time, but also from the recycling of his legend. It tries to reveal if the grave of the first Ecuadorian filmmaker contains, as rumored, the films he asked to be buried with.
