Cineasta venezolano que se formó en la Universidad de Nueva York, posteriormente trabajó para la televisión europea en diversas regiones de África. Se ha interesado en documentar la obra de los grandes de la cultura musical venezolana. Debido al cabal conocimiento de la expresión cultural llanera, lugar donde sus ancestros se dedican a la actividad agropecuaria, Petrizzelli pudo penetrar íntimamente al universo de la música y las costumbres tradicionales del llano.

Su interés se ha concentrado en exaltar a los grandes músicos, tales como el Carrao de Palmarito, y en esta oportunidad al famoso Anselmo López, uno de los más importantes representantes de la ejecución musical venezolana. Su trabajo fílmico se ha destacado durante toda su trayectoria por el alto nivel de refinamiento formal, el rigor etnológico y la gran capacidad de su producción cinematográfica, circunstancia que lo han hecho merecedor de importantes premios en festivales nacionales e internacionales. A realizado más de diez documentales, entre ellos Carrao y María Lionza.

John Petrizzelli was trained at the New York University and then worked for the European television in some African regions. He has been interested in reflecting the work of the Venezuela musical culture. thanks to his deep knowledge of the cultural expression of the plain inhabitants, a place where his ancestors devoted themselves to agriculture, Petrizzelli could have deeply penetrate the universe of the music and traditional customs of the plain region.

His interest has been addressed to extol great musician, such as el Carrao de Palmarito and the famous Anselmo López, one of the best representatives of the Venezuelan musical performance. His film work has stood out throughout his career for the high level of his formal refinement, the ethnologic rigor and the great capacity of his film production, circumstances that made him the winner of important prizes at National and International Film Festivals. He has made more than ten documentaries, among them Carrao and María Lionza.
