Nació en Puerto Montt, Chile. Estudió Antropología en la Universidad Austral de Valdivia. Comenzó su trabajo audiovisual como guionista asistente en el filme Coronación (2000), de Silvio Caiozzi.
En codirección con Bettina Perut, ha realizado numerosos documentales, entre los que se encuentra Chi-chi-chi Le-le-le Martín Vargas de Chile, donde se narra el retorno al ring del mítico campeón de boxeo Martín Vargas y el impacto que este hito provocó en la sociedad chilena. Con este documental resultó ganador del Festival Internacional de Cine de Valparaíso (2001), Premio a la Mejor Investigación y Premio al Mejor Desarrollo del Tema en el IV Festival Internacional de Cine Documental en Santiago de Chile (2000).
Entre el 2000 y el 2002, Perut y Osnovikoff producen y dirigen Un hombre aparte, metáfora profunda y descarnada sobre la condición humana, que relata el ocaso de Ricardo Liaño y su intento por volver a ser millonario a los 80 años. Un hombre aparte recibió el Premio Coral al Mejor Documental Experimental en el Festival de Cine de La Habana (2002), Premio Docúpolis al Mejor Documental en el Festival Internacional Documental de Barcelona (2003), Premios Altazor a las Artes Nacionales (2002) por Mejor Dirección y Mejor Aporte Creativo en Cine y participación en la Silver Wolf Competition de IDFA (2002)
Al año siguiente Perut y Osnovikoff producen y dirigen El astuto mono Pinochet contra la moneda de los cerdos (2004), provocadora experimentación documental sobre el tema del golpe de estado de 1973; y Welcome to New York, en el cual los realizadores dan cuenta de su irreverente y sarcástica visión de la "Capital del Mundo". El film fue estrenado en Nueva York en marzo de 2006, e invitado a participar en la Competencia Oficial del Karlovy Vary IFF, entre otros festivales internacionales.
En la actualidad Perut y Osnovikoff se encuentran en proceso de postproducción de su nuevo largometraje documental, titulado Animals.
Iván Osnovikoff, born in Puerto Montt, Chile, studied Anthropology at the Austral University (Universidad Austral) of Valdivia. He began his audiovisual work as assistant screenwriter of the film Coronación (2000) by Silvio Caiozzi.
He has codirected numerous documentaries with Bettina Perut, such as Chi-chi-chi Le-le-le Martín Vargas de Chile, which narrates the comeback to the ring of the mythic boxing champion Martín Vargas and the impact of this event in the Chilean society. Winner of the Valparaíso International Film Festival (Festival Internacional de Cine de Valparaíso) (2001), Prize for the Best Research (Premio a la Mejor Investigación) and Prize for the Best Development of the Theme at the 4th Santiago International Festival of Documentary Film (IV Festival Internacional de Cine Documentary de Santiago), Chile (2000).
From 2000 to 2002, Bettina Perut and Osnovikoff produced and y directed Un hombre aparte, a deep and crude metaphor on the human condition, which relates the fall of Ricardo Liaño and his attempt to be a millionaire again at the age of eighty. Coral award for the Best Experimental Documentary at the International Festival of the New Latin American Cinema of Havana (2002), Docúpolis Prize for the Best Documentary at the Barcelona Documentary International Film Festival (Festival Internacional Documental de Barcelona., 2003), Altazor Prize to the National Arts (Premios Altazor a las Artes Nacionales, 2002) as the Best Direction and Best Creative Contribution in a Film and participation in the Silver Wolf Competition of the IDFA (2002).
The next year, Perut and Osnovikoff produced and directed El astuto mono Pinochet contra la moneda de los cerdos (2004), a provocative documentary experimentation on the theme of the coup of 1973; they also made Welcome to New York, in which the filmmakers offer there unorthodox and sarcastic vision of the "Capital of the World". The film was released in Nueva York in March 2006 and was invited to participate in the Oficial Competition of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, among other international festivals.
The couple also worked together in the postproduction process of the feature length documentary film Animals.
