Nacido en 1944, ha dirigido, producido y escrito guiones de filmes de ficción, documentales y comerciales, además de haber ejercido varios cargos ligados a la política cinematográfica, como el de Presidente de la Asociación de Autores Cinematográficos (1992-1993) y el de Secretario Nacional para el Desenvolvimiento Audiovisual, entre 1994 y 1995.
Ligado al grupo Cinema Novo, es director de filmes como Pecado mortal (1970), premio de la crítica en el Festival de Brasília; Stelinha (1990), ganador de 12 premios en el Festival de Gramado; y República dos assassinos (1979), policíaco inspirado en el romance de Aguinaldo Silva, premiado en el Festival de Cartagena.
En 1968, dirigió su primer cortometraje, Arte-Comunicação. Al año siguiente dirigió y escribió el largometraje Pedro Diabo ama Rosa Meia-Noite, en la línea policíaca. Dirigió además los largos Matei por amor (1971), con Nelson Pereira dos Santos como actor, y Um homem célebre (1975). En 1976 dirigió el mediometraje Canta Belém, y en 1977 el largo Na ponta da faca, historia de un luchador de boxeo. En 1984 dirigió el largo Para viver um grande amor, adaptación del musical Pobre menina rica, de Vinicius de Moraes y Carlos Lyra.
Su carrera como productor y productor ejecutivo se inició en 1976, con Getúlio Vargas, de Ana Carolina, e incluyó Tensão no Rio (1980), de Gustavo Dahl, Mil e uma (1993), de Suzana de Moraes, y Tieta do Agreste (1995), de Carlos Diegues.
Durante las filmaciones de Tieta, fue invitado por el productor Bruno Stroppiana a dirigir O xangô de Baker Street (2001), adaptación del best seller homónimo de Jô Soares. En 2005, realizó el documental Vinicius, que fue un gran suceso de público.
Miguel Faria Jr., born in 1944, has directed, produced and written screenplays of narrative feature films, documentaries and commercials, in addition to in charge of many directing psitions related to film organization, as the, president of Film Authors Association (Asociación de Autores Cinematográficos) (1992-1993) and National Secretary for the Development of the Aaudiovisual between 1994 and 1995.
He was closely related to the Cinema Novo group of filmmakers. Faria has directed films like Pecado mortal (1970) that received the critic award at the Brazilian Festival de Brasília; Stelinha (1990), winner of 12 awards at the Gramado Film Festival; and República dos assassinos (1979), a thriller inspired in the novel by Aguinaldo Silva, awarded at the Cartagena Film Festival.
