Nace en São Paulo, en 1956. Estudió Arquitectura y comenzó a trabajar con audiovisuales en la década de 1980. Fundó una compañía de producción de televisión independiente y más adelante O2 Filmes, con Fernando Meirelles y Andréa Barata Ribeiro.
Su primer cortometraje, Tombstone (1997), ganó premios en los festivales de La Habana, Los Ángeles, Río y São Paulo. Debuta en el largometraje con The Price of Peace (1999), basado en la historia del Baron of Serro Azul, con el que ganó el premio popular del jurado en el Festival de Gramado. En 2003 dirige su segundo largometraje, una comedia de enredos amorosos
titulada A Viva voz, con la que se llevó el premio
internacional en el New York International Independent Film & Video
Festival.
Participó en el proyecto Cidade dos Homens, desde la segunda temporada de la serie, dirigiendo su segundo episodio. Fue director general de la tercera temporada y le puso punto final en el 2004, antes de empezar el rodaje de la película con el mismo título, Cidade dos Homens.
Paulo Morelli (1956-), born in São Paulo, studied architecture and began to work in the audiovisuals in the 1980s. He founded his own independent television production company and further on another, O2 Filmes with Fernando Meirelles and Andréa Barata Ribeiro.
His first short film Tombstone (1997) won awards at the festivals of Havana, Los Angeles, Rio and São Paulo. His first feature film was The Price of Peace (1999), based on the story of the Baron of Serro Azul, which won the popular jury award of the Gramado Film Festival in 2003. He took part in the project Cidade dos Homens since the second season of the series, directing its second episode. He was also director of the third season and put an end to the series in 2004, just before beginning the shooting of the film of the same title, Cidade dos Homens, which was released with the English title of City of men on February 29. His comedy A viva voz was successfully screened at the Trieste Latin American Film Festival.
