    Estudia Relaciones Industriales en la UIA. Continúa con estudios en Dirección de Teatro en la Academy of Live and Recording Arts de Londres, Inglaterra, institución patrocinada por Glenda Jackson y bajo la supervisión de Sorrel Carson. Su pasión por el cine lo lleva al CCC, de donde egresa con la especialidad en Dirección. En 1982 trabaja en la Compañía Nacional de Teatro en seis puestas en escena, destacando como asistente durante un año del director Julio Castillo. Entre 1980 y 1986 participa en más de 500 horas de televisión en telenovelas y series como Colorina, y La gloria y el infierno, en calidad de asistente de dirección y director de arte. Dirige la adaptación para televisión de Crimen y Castigo coproducida por la Compañía Nacional de Teatro y Canal 11. Se inicia en el cine con el cortometraje Trazos en blanco (1985). Su cortometraje El cantante que quería ser como Janis Joplin (1987), gana el primer lugar en el I Encuentro Nacional de Cortometrajes y Documentales. Continúa con Quijote (1987) y Cutzamala (1988). Recibe la beca Fullbright, con la que se especializa en imagen digital cinematográfica, en el Advanced Computing Center for the Arts Desing, de The Ohio State University, convirtiéndose en pionero de esta innovación tecnológica. En 1991 asiste a Alfredo Joskowicz en la dirección de la película Playa Azul. Dirige y escribe su primer largometraje Lolo (1992), con el que gana el premio a la Mejor Ópera Prima en el Festival de La Habana. Se hace cargo de la producción de la cinta dirigida por Ernesto Rimoch, El anzuelo (1995). Su segundo largometraje, Fibra óptica (1997), recibe el premio a la Mejor Película y Mejor Fotografía en el Festival de Cine Latinoamericano de Nueva York y los Arieles en 1999, en las categorías de Sonido y Guión Cinematográfico Original. En 2000, dirige Vera, cinta cuya postproducción se termina en 2002. La película forma parte de la Sección Oficial en la XVII Muestra de Cine Mexicano en Guadalajara ese año.

He directed the TV adaptation of Crímen y Castigo, co-produced by the National Theater Company and Channel 11. He began his career as director with the short film Trazos en blanco (1985). His short film El cantante que quería ser como Janis Joplin (1987), won first place at the First National Encounter of Short Films and Documentaries (Primer Encuentro Nacional de Cortometrajes y Documentales). After that he made Quijote (1987), Cutzamala (1988). He won a Fullbright scholarship and specialized himself in film digital image at the Advanced Computing Center for the Arts Design, in the Ohio State University, thus becoming a precursor in this technological innovation. In 1991 he was assistant director of Alfredo Joskowicz in the film Playa Azul. He wrote and directed his first feature film, Lolo (1992), with which he won the prize for Best First Work at the Havana International Festival of the New Latin American Cinema. He is responsible for the production of a film directed by Ernesto Rimoch, El anzuelo (1995). His second feature film, Fibra óptica (1997), is a prize-winner of the awards for Best Film and Best Cinematography at the Latin American Festival of New York and the Ariel awards in 1999, in the categories of Original Film Sound and Screenplay. In 2000, he directed Vera, a film whose postproduction was finished in 2002. This Picture was selected for the Official Section of the 12th Showcase of Mexican Cinema in Guadalajara in 2002.
