Nace en Buenos Aires en 1972. Estudia Comunicación Social en la Universidad de Buenos Aires y Realización Cinematográfica en la Escuela de Cine de Avellaneda.
Desde 1997, junto a Virna Molina, comienza a trabajar como director y productor en su ópera prima, el largometraje documental Raymundo, el cual narra la vida del cineasta desaparecido Raymundo Gleyzer. Desarrolla durante cuatro años la investigación, guión, recuperación de archivos y montaje del film. Obtiene el subsidio del Fondo Nacional de las Artes (Argentina), Fundación Altercine (Canadá) y Jan Vrijman Fund (Holanda), así como el auspicio del Instituto Nacional de Artes Audiovisuales (INCAA) y del Sindicato de la Industria Cinematográfica Argentina (SICA). Culmina Raymundo en Noviembre de 2002. El film causa un gran impacto internacional. Es seleccionado oficialmente en más de 50 festivales del mundo y obtiene 16 premios internacionales. Raymundo fue invitado para la Noche de Apertura en el Robert Faherty Film Seminar, uno de los más prestigioso del mundo, desarrollado en EE.UU. Fue el primer film argentino en la historia en participar de la competencia internacional en el festival de documentales más importante de oriente “Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival”. Fue emitido por las televisiones de España, Venezuela, Brasil, Estados Unidos, Uruguay y Argentina. La prensa internacional abrazó la realización y contenido del film muy favorablemente, destacándose críticas en las más importantes revistas del medio como Variety de Estados Unidos o Cahier du Cinema, de Francia. No se estrena comercialmente en las salas cinematográficas de Argentina, sino que se difunde de forma alternativa y militante, superando los 50 mil espectadores.
Desde el año 2004 dirige y produce, junto a Virna Molina, su nuevo film documental Corazón de Fábrica, sobre la historia de los obreros de la fábrica Zanón. Son premiados nuevamente con las becas de Jan Vrijman Fund y Altercine para finalizarlo. El jurado mencionó la riqueza y la profundidad de la investigación, la confianza y la complicidad desarrolladas con los trabajadores, la fuerza de los personajes y su evolución a través de contradicciones internas, la calidad del tratamiento cinematográfico. Finalmente el jurado señaló la pertinencia social y política de este proyecto en la lucha por la democracia sindical y en toda Argentina.
En el año 2005 Ardito es invitado por la Universidad de Bielefeld, Alemania, para presentar su ponencia sobre cine documental argentino, ante prestigiosas figuras en la investigación del género documental. En el año 2007 es convocado como jurado internacional para seleccionar proyectos documentales para CNTV, Consejo Nacional de Televisión de Chile. Ese mismo año es elegido como miembro del Comité de Evaluación de Proyectos Documentales del INCAA, Instituto Nacional de Cine y Artes Audiovisuales (Argentina).
En marzo de 2008 estrena su nuevo film Corazón de Fábrica. Con fuertes repercusiones en la audiencia y en la prensa, la revista Cahier du Cinema, lo selecciona como uno de los tres filmes relevantes del BAFICI 2008. Ese mismo año se desempeñó como Jurado seleccionador de proyectos documentales para el Consejo Nacional de la Cultura y las Artes de Chile.
Ernesto Ardito (1972-) was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He studied Social Communication at the University of Buenos Aires and Filmmaking in the Film School of Avellaneda.
Since 1997, together with Virna Molina, he began to work on his first film as a director and producer. The documentary entitled Raymundo narrates the life of the missing filmmaker Raymundo Gleyzer. In four years of intense work, Ardito made the research, the script, the archive recovering and the editing of the film. He obtained grants from the National Endowment for the Arts (Argentina), from the Altercine Foundation (Canada) and from the Jan Vrijman Fund (Netherlands). The film was also sponsored by the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA) and the Union for the Argentine Cinema Industry (SICA). Raymundo was finished in November 2002 causing a huge international impact. It was officially selected to participate in over 50 festivals worldwide and it obtained 16 international awards. Raymundo was invited to the Opening Night at the Robert Flaherty Film Seminar, one of the most prestigious in the world, developed in the United States. This was the first film in the history of Argentine cinema that participated in the international competition of the most important documentary festival in the Asian region, the "Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival". It was broadcasted by television stations in Spain, Venezuela, Brazil, United States, Uruguay and Argentina. The international press supported the direction and content of the movie, with favorable critics in important film magazines such as "Variety" in the United States or "Cahiers du Cinema” in France. Raymundo was not commercially released in the movie theaters of Argentina, but it was diffused in an alternative and activist way with over 50 000 spectators.
Since 2004, he directed and produced together with Virna Molina, his new documentary film Corazón de Fábrica, on the story of the workers who labored in the factory of Zanón. They are rewarded again with the Jan Vrijman Fund and the Altercine scholarships to complete the film. The jury mentioned the richness and depth of the research, the trust and complicity developed with the workers, the strength of the characters and their evolution through internal contradictions, and also the quality of the filming process. Finally, the jury noted the social and political relevance of this project in the struggle for syndical democracy throughout Argentina.
In 2005, Ernesto was invited by the University of Bielefeld, Germany, to present a paper on Argentine documentary cinema, to prestigious specialists who research on the documentary genre. In 2007 he is called to be part of the international jury that selects documentary projects for CNTV, National Council of Television in Chile. That same year, he was elected as a member of the Documentary Project Review Committee of the INCAA, the National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (Argentina).
In March 2008, his new film Corazón de Fábrica was premiered, causing a strong impact on the audience and the press. The magazine Cahiers du Cinema, selected it as one of the three more relevant films of the BAFICI 2008. In July, Ernesto Ardito offered a series of lectures on editing, production and distribution of documentary cinema at the University of Bielefeld, Germany. In September, he acted as a Jury member in the selection of documentary projects for the National Council of Culture and the Arts of Chile.
