Comunicadora Social y especialista en producción de cine, video y el tema de género. Durante más de 20 años de ejercicio profesional en el área de la cultura, los medios de comunicación y el movimiento social de mujeres, se ha desempeñado como profesora universitaria, actriz de teatro, fotógrafa fija, productora ejecutiva, sonidista, camarógrafa y directora de cine y video.

Como cineasta y documentalista ha trabajado en obras de su autoría y producciones relacionadas con el área de desarrollo social: educación, salud, ecología, ciencia, género, etnias y participación comunitaria, entre otras. Utiliza con frecuencia la investigación cualitativa etnográfica como herramienta para la aproximación a los temas que desarrolla en forma audiovisual. Ha trabajado el género de puesta en escena con actores profesionales o actores naturales, el género documental y los recursos experimentales.

En su actividad como miembro y directora ejecutiva de la Fundación Cine Mujer y el contacto con el movimiento social de mujeres, le ha posibilitado profundizar en el tema de género. Sus películas proponen un imaginario de mujer contemporánea con la que las colombianas y latinoamericanas podamos identificarnos, motivando la reflexión sobre la condición femenina en nuestras sociedades y la ruptura con arcaicos estereotipos sexuales.
 

Clara M. Riascos is a Colombian social communicator specialized in film and video production, and in the theme of gender. She has more than 20 years of professional experience in the fields of culture, the media and the social movement of women. She has worked as university professor, theater actress, still woman, executive producer, sound woman, camera operator and director of films and videos.

As a documentary filmmaker she has worked in her own works and in productions closely  linked with the social development areas: education, health, ecology, science,  gender, ethnicity and community work, etc. She frequently uses qualitative ethnographic research as a tool as an instrument to approach to the themes she develops in an audiovisual way. She has directed films with non- professional or natural actors, and worked with the documentary genre and the experimental resources.

Her activities as member and executive director of the Woman Film Foundation (Fundación Cine Mujer) and the contact with the women social movement has allowed her to deepen into the subjects related to gender. Her films offer an image of the contemporary woman in a way that Colombian and Latin-American women could identify themselves with, and, at the same time, they are an invitation to reflect on the condition of women in Latin American societies and the depart from archaic sexual stereotypes.
