    Tito, un niño lustrabotas que trabaja en la ciudad de La Paz, Bolivia. La ciudad está siendo sacudida por fuertes movimientos sociales y, mientras esto sucede, alguien le roba a Tito su cajita con herramientas de trabajo. Impotente, el niño comienza una búsqueda donde los sueños y la realidad se confunden. Una misteriosa mujer que aparece en sus sueños lo lleva a un viaje por el antiguo camino del Inca y le muestra las maravillas de la naturaleza. Perdido y confundido en una realidad onírica, la búsqueda de su caja le lleva a una comprensión más profunda de su propio ser. Sin embargo, en la ciudad las protestas se convierten en violentos enfrentamientos. Una bala perdida alcanza a Tito y sólo en la frontera de la muerte se revela el misterio de la vida.

    Tito, a shoeshine boy, sleeps on the streets of La Paz. Slumbering underneath a Zapata hat he dreams of another world until he is rudely awakened by his nightmarish present – and the discovery of the theft of the shoeshine box he needs to survive. Everywhere around him a constant battle is being waged against miserably impoverished social conditions. When the indigenous population makes a stand for their rights the police answer with tear gas and sharpshooting. A mysterious woman accompanies Tito in surreal dream sequences. She leads him down ancient Inca paths where he receives the wisdom of his ancestors and feels his spiritual bond with the earth, until the quiet of the mountains and the sound of the water are interrupted once more by the sound of street fighting.
