Directora, profesora de música, fotógrafa y guionista. Nace en la Ciudad de México, el 11 de agosto de 1959. Tras abandonar su carrera universitaria, se incorpora al Departamento de Investigación de la Cineteca Nacional. En 1982 ingresa al Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC). Tres años más tarde, codirige con Ana Diez Díaz el documental Elvira Luz Cruz, pena máxima, que fue exhibido ese mismo año en la Reunión de la Mujer, convocada por la Organización de las Naciones Unidas en Nairobi, Kenya, y en el Festival de La Habana. Esta cinta se hizo acreedora al Ariel y la Diosa de Plata al Mejor Cortometraje Documental, además del premio Bochica de Oro en el Festival de Cartagena, Colombia.

Dana trabaja como asistente del director Felipe Cazals en las siguientes películas: Los motivos de Luz (1985), Las inocentes (1986), El tres de copas (1986), La furia de un dios (1987), y los episodios que dirige en la serie de TV Cuentos de madrugada.

En 1989 dirige Intimidad, su primer largometraje de ficción basado en la historia homónima de Hugo Hiriart, con guión de Leonardo García Tsao, que obtuvo el Heraldo a la Mejor Dirección en 1991. Vino después Ángel de fuego (1992), cinta que recibe el premio a la Mejor Película y Mejor Coreografía en el Festival de La Habana en 1992, el premio a la mejor cinta en el Festival Latino de Nueva York y el premio de la Crítica Extranjera en la VI Muestra de Cine Mexicano en Guadalajara.

En 1993, con apoyo de varias instituciones, Dana Rotberg se da a la tarea de organizar el Primer Ciclo de Cine consagrado a Sarajevo. Este ciclo consistió en la exhibición de una veintena de videos documentales integrados en tres programas bajo la denominación Sa-Life

Finalmente, Rotberg realiza la película Otilia Rauda (2001) basada en la novela homónima de Sergio Galindo. El guión fue obra de la realizadora, con el cual ganó el premio al mejor proyecto de guión cinematográfico del Festival de Cine de Sundance, Estados Unidos, 2000. Rotberg realizó nueve tratamientos, sobre los tres ya hechos por otros adaptadores.

Dana Rotberg was born on August 11, 1959 in Mexico City. She is a film director, music professor, photographer and scriptwriter. After she gave up her university course, she became a member of the Research Department of the National Film Library. In 1982, she registered at the Centre for Film Training (Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica, CCC). Three years later, she co-directed with Ana Diez Díaz, the documentary Elvira Luz Cruz, pena máxima, that was exhibited that year at the Women’s Meeting, organized by the United Nations Organization in Nairobi, Kenya, and in the Havana Film Festival. This film won the prizes Ariel and Diosa de Plata for Best Documentary short film; it also won the Prize Bochica de Oro at the Festival of Cartagena, Colombia.

In 1989, she directed Intimidad, her first narrative feature film, based on the homonymous story by Hugo Hiriart, with a screenplay by Leonardo García Tsao, which got the prize Heraldo for Best Direction in 1991. After that she made Ángel de fuego (1992), a film that was awarded with the prize for Best Film and Best Choreography at the Havana Festival in 1992, the prize for Best Film at the Latino Festival of New York and the prize of the Foreign Critic in the 6th Guadalajara Showcase of Mexican Cinema .

In 1993, with the support of several institutions, Dana Rotberg undertook the task of organizing the First Cycle of Films dedicated to Sarajevo. This event consisted in exhibiting about twenty documentary videos integrated in three programs under the name Sa-Life.

Finally, Rotberg directed the film Otilia Rauda (2001) based on the homonymous novel by Sergio Galindo. She was also the author of the script, which won the prize for the Best Screenplay project at the Sundance Film Festival, United States, in 2000. Rotberg made nine treatments of the screenplay over the three previous ones made by other writers that had adapted the novel.
