  • Tatiana Gaviola
    (Chile)

Tatiana Gaviola is one of the many Chilean filmmakers who began to work in the film industry after the return of democracy. The film is a melodrama of extreme situations that do not exclude love, hate, rage, the ambition, treason, eroticism and jealousy, the film was produced by the National television.

Tatiana Gaviola had study at the Arts and Communication School (Escuela de Artes y Comunicación) of the Catholic University, at a time when was considered weird to study film even more in the case of a woman. Her school was closed at the beginning of Pinochet´s Dictatorship. The own filmmaker had stated "they said that filmmakers were not necessary, the creation of fiction was considered very negative. I had to begin my career at a time when there were not movie theaters and neither Chilean movies, all the movies were insolated; it was like if you have to conquered some place."

Any way Gaviola managed to direct some documentaries in video, dealing with historical and feminine themes, an a medium  in 16 mm length film that mixed fiction and documentary, Ángel (1988), which deserved an invitation of the Museum of Modern Art of New York;  Its screenplay was written by Delfina Guzmán. The film tells about a group of students who have disappeared and the story of Juan Maino.
