When a slaughterhouse worker is fired from his job, he begins a futile eight month search for employment. He steals a cow to feed his wife and their many children. When he tries to steal another cow, he is caught and sentenced to a five year prison term. Without the father as the primary breadwinner, the family falls apart. His unfortunate children are forced into theft and prostitution in order to survive.
