    Juca es un obrero, despojado por su patrón de los planos de un invento. Su mujer se ha suicidado por ese hecho y él decide vengarse. Opta por disfrazarse de mendigo y con las limosnas se convierte en millonario. Conoce a una prostituta y la hace su amante. Después ella planea huir con otro hombre, quien resulta ser el hijo del antiguo patrón de Juca. Al enterarse, el supuesto mendigo decide no cometer su venganza para que ella, de quien se ha enamorado, pueda ser feliz. Pero ella finalmente regresará junto a él.Sobre la pieza teatral homónima de Joracy Camargo.

    A reasonably successful labourer named Juca (Arturo de Córdova) has come up with an idea for an invention that could very well make him wealthy, only to find that his supervisor has made off with the plans. Breaking the news to his wife, she kills herself out of despair, prompting Juca to vow revenge upon his now former boss. To this end, he dresses up as a beggar and takes to the streets, only to find that his success as a beggar threatens to make him very wealthy. While working the streets, he meets a prostitute and the two quickly enter into a sexual relationship. Juca's new lover soon meets and falls in love with a young man who turns out to be the son of Juca's former boss. Learning of the relationship and, more importantly, the extent that his prostitute friend loves the young man, Juca revokes his vow of revenge so that the young woman can try and have a happy life.
