Animador, realizador de cortometrajes y programas de televisión dedicados al público infantil. Se estrenó en la dirección de largometrajes con El castillo de Ra-Tim-bum (2000), basado en la serie homónima que él mismo había dirigido para TV Cultura, entre 1993 y 1994.
Comenzó su carrera con el premiado corto de animación, de figuras de plastilina, Frankenstein Punk, en 1987, codirigido con Eliana Fonseca, al que siguió el corto La muchacha de la pantalla (1988), premiado en Brasilia, La Habana y Gramado. Luego, fue el momento de O menino, a favela e a tampa de panela (1997), realizado con la BBC de Londres, y exhibido por la UNICEF en treinta países.
También realizó documentales entre 1990 y 1993 y en colaboración con TV Cultura hizo la serie animada Os urbanoides (1991).
En 2004 dirigió uno de los episodios de la serie Cidade dos Homens, y en 2006 se encargó de la creación y dirección general de la aclamada serie Filhos do Carnaval. Su segundo filme, también de 2006, O ano em que meus pais saíram do férias, inauguró el Festival Internacional de Cine de Guadalajara, en 2007.
Cao Hamburger (1962-) is a Brazilian animator, director of short films and TV programs dedicated to the children´s audience. His debut in feature film was Ratimbum Castle, the Film (2000), based on the tv series of the same title that himself directed for TV Cultura between 1993 and 1994.
His career began in 1987 with the award winner animated short film made from plasticine Frankenstein Punk, co-directed with Eliana Fonseca. Another short film followed A garota das telas (1988), awarded in Brasilia, Havana and Gramado. Then the moment arrived for O menino, a favela e a tampa de panela (1997) which was co-produced with the London BBC and screened by the UNICEF in thirty countries. From 1990 to 1993, he also directed documentaries and in collaboration of TV Cultura he filmed the animation series Os urbanoides (1991).
In 2004 Hamburger directed one of the episodes of the series Cidade dos Homens (City of Men), and in 2006 he created and directed the popular series Filhos do Carnaval. His second feature film was also produced in 2006, O ano em que meus pais saíram de férias, which was screened at the opening night of the Guadalajara International Film Festival in 2007, and also took part at important world wide film festivals. The film was also among the nine finalists for the Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.
