En el expediente de la cineasta paraguaya Paz Encina se combinan dos características bastante excepcionales: es una mujer que hace cine, y además lo realiza en Paraguay, un país con escasa tradición en ese campo. A esas dos condiciones excepcionales, Paz Encina añade una tercera, es de las pocas cineastas que ha recibido un premio importante en el Festival de Cannes: el de la Federación Internacional de la Prensa Cinematográfica (FIPRESCI) por Hamaca paraguaya, su debut en el largometraje de ficción, con la activa presencia de la productora argentina Lita Stantic. Paz Encina desarrolló sus estudios de cine en la ciudad de Buenos Aires.
Hamaca paraguaya es un filme de bellísimas imágenes cuya acción transcurre en 1935, y cuenta la historia de un padre y una madre que, día tras día, esperan que su hijo regrese de la guerra. Fue rodada en lugares muy vírgenes de Paraguay, y el escenario es prácticamente el natural, de ahí viene parte de su belleza.
Hablada enteramente en guaraní, Hamaca paraguaya consiguió, desde su preproducción, reconocimientos que ningún otro proyecto de ese país había conseguido hasta el momento, gracias a lo cual se pudo rodar en 35 mm. Obtuvo el New Crowned Hope (Austria) y premios de distintos ámbitos internacionales: Premio de la Crítica Internacional en el Festival de Cannes, Fundación Príncipe Claus al proyecto CineMart 2005 (Holanda), Fundación Gotemburgo (Suecia), World Cinema Fund (Alemania), Cinefondation (Francia), Arté (Francia) y Fonds Sud Cinema (Francia). Holanda, Argentina y Francia se unieron al proyecto de Paz Encina participando como coproductores.
The dossier of the Paraguayan filmmaker Paz Encina shows the combination of two quite exceptional characteristics: she is a female filmmaker and she does her work in Paraguay, a country with very scarce tradition in the field. She adds a third exceptional condition to the previous ones, Paz Encina is one of the few women filmmakers who has received one of the most important awards of the Cannes Film Festival: the Prize of the International Federation of Film Critics (FIPRESCI) for the film Hamaca paraguaya, her directorial debut in the narrative feature film, with the active presence of Argentinean producer Lita Stantic. Paz Encina took film studies in the city of Buenos Aires.
Hamaca paraguaya was shot in beautiful locations. The action of the film takes place in 1935, and it tells the story of a father and a mother who expect their son’s return from the war day after day. It was filmed in "very virgen places" of Paraguay, and the scenery is practically natural, which is part of the beauty of the film. The language used in the film is entirely guaraní.
Since its pre-production phase, Hamaca paraguaya won the recognition that no other project from that country had ever achieved until that moment. Thanks to that, they were able to film in 35 mm. The film got the New Crowned Hope (Austria) and other international prizes: Prize of the international critic at the Cannes Festival, The Foundation Prínce Claus to the project CineMart 2005 (the Netherlands), Fund Gotemburgo (Sweden), World Cinema Fund (Germany), Cinefondation (France), Arté (France) and Fonds Sud Cinema (France). The Netherlands, Argentina and France joined Paz Encina`s project and participated as co-producers.
