El Festival de Cine de Trinidad y Tobago entregó sus premios en 8 categorías, con todos los filmes disponibles para su visionado en el sitio oficial del evento ttfilmfestival.com. El cortometraje documental Becky, fue anunciado como ganador en la ceremonia virtual, una vigorosa historia sobre la resiliencia de una mujer Keniana en un viaje hacia su completa realización.

El Festival de Cine de Trinidad y Tobago entregó su premios en 8 categorías, con todos los filmes disponibles para su visionado en el sitio oficial del evento ttfilmfestival.com. El cortometraje documental Becky, fue anunciado como ganador en la ceremonia virtual, una vigorosa historia sobre la resiliencia de una mujer Keniana en un viaje hacia su completa realización.

El director afincado en Trinidad y Tobago, Andreas Antonopoulos, ganó como Mejor Filme para los Nuevos Medios, por su trabajo “Rhythms of Trinidad, que realizó con imágenes de archivos, en colaboración con el Archivo Nacional de Trinidad y Tobago; el filme hecha una mirada a la historia en tanto generadora de cambio y espacios.

De los 13 filmes realizados por estudiantes proyectados en el ttff/21, “Juana”, del director dominicano José Antonio Martínez, resultó el ganador de Mejor Filme realizado por un estudiante.

Los jóvenes cineastas emergentes y los profesionales de la industria jugaron un importante papel en la entrega de premios en esta edición. El Mejor Filme seleccionado por el Jurado Joven, asesorado por el experimentado crítico de cine  BC Pires, fue el filme “Lovena”, de Olivier Sagne. 

El Mejor cortometraje de ficción fue concedido al brasileño “Rafameia (Riff-Raff)”, de Mariah Teixeira y Nanda Félix. “Perfume de Gardenias”, de la directora puertorriqueña Macha Colón, se llevó el galardón a “Mejor Largometraje de Ficción, una comedia negra que cuenta la historia de una mujer mayor en Puerto Rico, que al quedarse viuda, diseña un funeral especial para su esposo; esto le proporcionara una ocupación, al comenzar a dedicarse a organizar funerales típicos para consolar el alma de sus vecinos.

El premio para el Mejor Cortometraje Documental recayó en “Écoutez le battement de nos images” (“Listen to the Beat of Our Images”), de Audrey Jean-Baptiste y Maxime Jean-Baptiste, de la Guyana francesa. Mientras, que el realizador cubano Marcel Beltrán ganó el premio al Mejor Largometraje Documental” con su filme, “Option Zero”.

Las palabras de la ceremonia virtual de clausura del ttff/21 estuvieron a cargo de Derwin Howell, Presidente de FILMCO; y los premios fueron entregados por Myles Lewis, Jefe de responsabilidad social y corporativa de NGC, y Kelli-Marie Patel, de Shell Trinidad and Tobago Ltd. y Republic Bank Ltd.

Cross' short documentary Becky was announced the winner during the virtual awards ceremony on Monday. Awards were given in eight film categories, and all the award-winning films are available for viewing today at ttfilmfestival.com.Becky is an unexpectedly uplifting story about a Kenyan woman’s resilience on her journey to feeling complete.

Trinidad-based director, Andreas Antonopoulos won “Best New Media Film” – for his work, Rhythms of Trinidad, which he created, using found archive, in collaboration with the National Archives of Trinidad and Tobago; the film looks at history through movement and production of space.

Out of 13 student films screened at ttff/21, Juana, by Dominican director José Antonio Martínez, emerged as the winner of “Best Student Film”.

Young and aspiring filmmakers and industry professionals also played a key role in judging films in competition at this year’s ttff.

The award for “Best Film as selected by the Youth Jury” was juried by young film jurors under the mentorship of seasoned film critic BC Pires, and was presented to Olivier Sagne for his film Lovena.

“Best Narrative Short”vwent to Brazilian directors Mariah Teixeira and Nanda Félix, for their film Rafameia (Riff-Raff).

Perfume de Gardenias, by Puerto Rican director Macha Colón, won “Best Narrative Feature”. Perfume de Gardenias is a dark comedy that tells the story of an elderly woman in Puerto Rico, who is widowed and crafts a beautiful, custom-made funeral for her husband. This leads her into a profession of designing custom, idiosyncratic funerals for her ailing neighbors.

The award for “Best Documentary Short” went to Audrey Jean-Baptiste and Maxime Jean-Baptiste from French Guiana, for Écoutez le battement de nos images (Listen to the Beat of Our Images), while Cuban filmmaker, Marcel Beltran, won “Best Documentary Feature” with his film, Option Zero.

Remarks were delivered at the ttff/21 virtual awards ceremony by Derwin Howell, Chairman of FILMCO, and awards were presented by Myles Lewis, head of corporate social responsibility and NGC, Kelli-Marie Patel from Shell Trinidad and Tobago Ltd. and Republic Bank Ltd.

The 2021 trinidad+tobago film festival (ttff/21) is given signature sponsorship by the National Gas Company of Trinidad and Tobago (NGC), leading sponsorship by Shell Trinidad and Tobago Limited and Republic Bank Limited(RBL), with National Lotteries Control Board (NLCB) and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts as contributing sponsors.
